Comparison and integration of simulation models for horizontal connection pipes in geothermal bore fields

Abstract The heat transfer along horizontal connection pipes in geothermal bore fields can have significant effects and should not be neglected. As practical design-related applications require simple efficient models, we investigate suitability of different models for the first time within this context. Three ground three pipe complexity are studied. All model combinations coupled with a fixed load boundary condition on one side borehole exchanger (BHE) other side. Models tested under variety realistic conditions to evaluate performance. investigations show that all investigated equally suitable application. For finite line source numerical 2D produce identical results homogeneous properties. soil resistance neglects temperature accumulation thus leads considerable deviations avoided. Based findings, propose computationally approach using novel combination established steady-state BHE pipes. In selected example scenario, consideration 30 m attached an increase by 40% heating case reduction 5% cooling case.
